remix your own untitled cat!

so here’s what i’ve been working on recently (well, a fraction of it anyway). here’s the finished version of the snippet i previewed earlier to be published in a newspaper format comic anthology edited by richard cowdry which by all accounts promises to be a bobby dazzler- more info soon…

i had been working on a similar idea previously to this, an interactive untitled cat strip where the reader could cut out and rearrange the panels and write the dialogue, which also featured untitled ape, but as you can see above i have changed him to a more streamlined handsome version, and as a result won’t be publishing this. HOWEVER, if any pig lovers out there want to have a go at remixing this, please feel free- there are even two spare panels to add whatever you like. As an incentive, i will be prepared to give excellent prizes to the best/ any entrants and i’ll display the results here. if you want a higher res version to play with, email me at banalpig@googlemail.com. Go on, have a go- get your crayons out, and i’ll see you next time.

bradford zine fayre next week!

hi friends

i’ll be taking part in the bradford zine fayre next sunday, 20th june. i’m looking forward to doing something like this in the north, it’ll be good so why not come along? i think there’s still space available too, check the link for details.

here’s a preview of a new untitled cat & untitled ape strip, which is gonna be a newspaper-sized, full colour, 40 panel extravaganza:

newz- post 246

hello pals!

i’m doing a few interesting bits and pieces at the moment- i’ve finished the much-mentioned mr wobbles/tie strip (and movie?) but i’m not gonna show you that until it’s put up on the website i did it for.  i’m working on a 40-panel full colour untitled cat strip which will be printed in a newspaper format, again i’ll have to wait to reveal the full details, but some things i can show you are a new lovely lads over on banal pig funnies which was premiered over on the fix online. i’m putting a funnie up on there every wednesday, some will be new, some will be “classics” from the “archive”, so keep an eye on it, there’s plenty of other good stuff on there too.
Also, in case you haven’t spotted it, there’s a picture of a chihuahua over on the banal pig illustration blog. i’m also currently colouring a picture i did of everyone’s fave, chiffo the bear at home with his family.

i’m excited by all this stuff i’m doing, but somehow it’s not forming itself into a comic easily, so i’m thinking aboout doing a publication that’s a slightly different format to the usual- i seem to have a lot of ideas that don’t fit into the template of banal pig comics- so i’m mulling that over. what you up to?

unemployed etc

what’s on friends? i’m in leeds now, looking for a job to pay the bills (gizza job), playing househusband and pottering about, but managing to get a bit of drawing in. here’s a preview from a contribution to an anthology i’m working on:

i cant really give much more away about this at this stage, but all will be revealed one day. i’m also doing a new “interactive” untitled cat strip, and a new covered cover and the second part of two intelligent men climb cat mountain for cheap zine. the first part is in the current issue (issue 9), available from here, so buy it why not? i’m also thinking about future projects and if i can start to make money from art (lol!), and i’ve got an extremely runny nose and a headache.

(untitled) cat and failure

here’s the first panels from untitled cat meets john duende and the spider bear, originally my entry for the ojcgssc, but (unsurprisingly) as i didnt win, i’m going to use it in the upcoming landscape anthology, hence the reason why you’re getting just a small teaser.

untitled cat

so here’s that preview from the observer/ jonathan cape graphic short story prize that i was on about. i’ll post it in full when i find out that i havent won, but i’ll leave you in suspense as to what the flaming hummer is going on for now. anyway, best crack on….

another banal pig 4 preview

here’s another preview from banal pig 4, the beginning of the jolly bear old testament story, and is the link page from the untitled cat strip featuring good old untitled ghost. it’s the same ink wash style i used for the jolly bear summer special 2, although i’m drawing over it in pen too to give it a tighter finish, and each of the images will be a full page. i’m doing a bit of digital grayscale on one or two of the strips too to give things a different look. nice.

cats and bats and birds and ghosts

So here’s this week’s exercise for the bristol comics forum thingie. this time it was an action, a genre and a place that were randomly selected. mine were sensory deprivation, david cronenberg and the kitchen, but being the trickster i am, i stuck happy vampire bat baker in there too.

elsewhere and otherwise, i have started scanning the finished pages of banal pig 4 on my A3 scanner. unfortunately, as regular pig fans will recall, the scanner doesnt work on my computer so i have to lug the big bastard over to pc-owning friends pcs to do it. anyway, here’s a nice preview of untitled cat for ye.

also, i’ve decided to do a handy size (A5) 80 page collection of banal pig comics 1-3, and i’m digitally remastering (rescanning) the banal pig 1 artwork, as it was a bit lo-res and rough due to my naivety. i’m doing this as i’m fed up reprinting them, and we’re running out of room on the stands at cons. should be nice.
